Quarter Updates: Production | Modification | Packaging

Dear Backers & early supporters,
Thanks for your patience towards Quarter. We cant stop saying thank you for your wonderful support. We're still constantly receiving great response and feedback from you guys. We promise to be as transparent as possible to you and hopefully you find the information useful. Below is some of the updates, kindly take a few minutes time to read through. : )
1. Silicone Production

1. Quater SI Mould | 2. Quarter Cap Detail Dimension | 3. Quarter SI DFM and Parting line
1. Quater SI Mould | 2. Quarter Cap Detail Dimension | 3. Quarter SI DFM and Parting line
Quarter Cap mould is ready and currently preparing for final sample approval. Quarter SI tool and mould is in the process of fabrication. Our manufacturer are still standing firm on the possibility of getting the whole Dock ready by end of December. We do not want to be too optimist. The changes and improvement done on the Quarter SI had delayed the production for few weeks time. We are following up with the supplier every two days to make sure they go all out in producing these parts as soon as possible.
2. Quarter SI Dock Modification & Improvement
With the modification of Quarter Dock our cost of production had gain by more than 100% of our initial plan, as the metal parts production is the crucial part of the improvement. Do not worries as we have poured in some of our own fund to make sure we could deliver as promise. We have source few different suppliers and methods to produce the metal stick in a cost efficient and effective way. After trying out CNC machining, Laser Cutting, Turret Punch and Wire Cut, we have decided to go for the wire cut. Wire cut is the most expensive within all methods, however it produce the best accuracy, beautiful outcome and shorter production time. We have tested it with both stainless steel and aluminium material.

Left: Creating the hole to prevent current flow (failed) | Right: Picture from ifixit shows the other two pin on the both end, makes 10 pin in total.

The nature of Aluminium and Stainless Steel are electrical conductive, therefore it will produce a tiny outflow of current from iPad Pro. Our initial design is to create a hole in the exact place where the 8pin lightning port pin located to avoid the current out flow. After several test we found out that there is two more pin on the both end which still causes the current out flow.

Left: With Anodized Coating creates insulator to avoid current out flow | Right: Current flow through the metal part

Hence we have decided to go with aluminium with a hard anodized coating to ensure there is no current out flow or possible short circuit. We will keep you posted on the following week after we receive the new Quarter Stick. Our team is working very hard to ensure we provides a quality and safe user experience.
3. Packaging

We have sent the packaging drawing for printing and die cutting. There will be a QR Code and Bar Code available in transparent sticker for retail purposes. The box will be made of quality thick white card board. The Quarter SI and Quarter Stick will be protected and hold by eva the form inside the box.
Therefore, as mentioned from the previous updates, there will be a slight delay of a 2 to 3 weeks on shipping. Hopefully the smooth production continues.
Our team would like to wish all of you Happy New Year and have a bless 2016 ahead ;)
Warmest Regards
SteelConnect Team
